About this Project

The brief was for a new outdoor stadium and arena seating 27,500 for the Waikato region, capable of hosting rugby and other events on the old Rugby Park site.

It includes the stadium bowl and a corporate block containing office space for the stadium administration, players’ facilities, corporate boxes and members’ lounges. It also includes facilities for the kitchen and hospitality areas as well as media and commentary areas.

The Stadium accommodates night events with the inclusion of four integrated lighting towers. Consideration of sight-lines for both spectators and for television coverage was a critical part of the design.

The completed project was awarded a New Zealand Institute of Architects National Award.
