About this Project

The Meridian Building is a five Greenstar rated office development on prime Wellington waterfront land. The building was designed by Studio Pacific Architecture in Wellington. Peddle Thorp were involved in the developed design as well as the technical documentation of the exterior envelope.

The ground floor is for public use. The top three floors are offices for the main tenant Meridian Energy who required a 'Green' office development as a commitment to their renewable energy policy.

The waterfront facades are glazed with an uninterrupted view of the Wellington harbour. The roof is uniquely shaped using a saw-tooth south light clerestory window to level 3.

The energy consumption and water usage is less than a comparable office building, with additional features such as the re-use of harvested rainwater, solar water heating, natural lighting and ventilation controlled by the Building Management System (BMS) through double skin ventilated facades.

One of the challenging aspects for Peddle Thorp on this project was to undertake the technical resolution and documentation of the Exterior Building Envelope whilst preserving the intent and clarity of Studio Pacific's design.

The continuation of a good working relationship between the two practices ensured that Peddle Thorp's proposals/sketch detailing was progressively reviewed by Studio Pacific and, where appropriate, the design developed or the proposals/detailing modified to achieve an agreed outcome.

The success of this process is reflected in the awards and favourable reviews this building has received since its completion
