About this Project

The redevelopment of Sir John Guise Stadium saw the existing facility upgraded to meet IAAF standards for international track and field competitions. The spectator capacity was increased to 15,000 with a full upgrade and addition to the existing grand stand, and new permanent seating placed around the track with toilets for spectators. The running track and field events equipment was replaced to provide a new surface, and a warm up track and field area were installed to meet the IAAF International Athletics Federation requirements.

The grassed infield of the track was upgraded to provide an international standard turf surface suitable for football, rugby or rugby league, and the lighting towers refurbished to provide lighting levels required for night time competition or games on the infield.

The main grandstand had the interior refurbished to provide spaces required by athletes and officials as well as corporate and VIP hospitality spaces.

A new International hockey facility, built close to the stadium with an artificial surface and lighting, provides a great new sporting facility for use long after the games.

The Stadium was used as the venue for the opening ceremony of the 2015 Pacific Games, and provides an enduring facility for athletics, football, rugby and rugby league at all levels from training and age group competitions to international matches.
