About this Project

Rhubarb Lane was the first stage in the proposed redevelopment of the Victoria Quarter on the western edge of Auckland’s CBD.

The project was the first of its kind, a genuine mixed use development featuring 6 floors of work/live units over a carefully crafted retail mix. The development consisted of 6 linked buildings designed by leading NZ and Australian Architects. Peddle Thorp designed building 6, which spanned Rhubarb Lane, the large units which were likely to accommodate larger commercial users.

The project concept was for ‘SOHO’ which, in either the New York or London contexts, suggested an area well stocked with creative industries and individuals. The development importantly bridged the void between inner Freemans Bay and the CBD.
